Director of Operations

Eric joined Kalman Manufacturing in 2017 after spending 6 years in the semiconductor capital equipment industry, where he served in Quality and Sustaining Engineering management roles at Nanometrics. His focus at Kalman Manufacturing is the development and improvement of operational systems and processes, with the ultimate goal of making the company a delight to work with for our customers. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Irvine, specializing in experimental condensed matter physics, and a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics from Santa Clara University.

Business Development

Mike leads Business Development at Kalman Manufacturing and is the first point of contact for new customers — scoping projects, coordinating engineering reviews, and making sure every quote is grounded in a plan the shop can deliver on. A third-generation machinist, Mike co-founded Magic Manufacturing and built it from zero to $100M in revenue, earning Applied Materials Vendor of the Year four consecutive times before the company was sold. He works closely with engineering and production to match each customer’s parts with the right machines and processes, and stays involved as programs scale from first articles into full production.

Rosa has been with Kalman Mfg since 2000. As a Customer Service Manager, she acts as a liaison between customers and Kalman’s production department making sure that the lines of communication remain open. Customer service is an integral part of Kalman’s value adds. Ongoing communication allows us to capture feedback to improve customer service and ensure that quality and service exceed customer expectations. Rosa strives to build trust and strong long term relationships with Kalman’s customers.

Alan joined Kalman Manufacturing in 2011 and has over 25+ years of experience in the manufacturing field with a wide range of experience in different types of CNC machines – 3-axis vertical mill, lathes, 5-axis verticals, and 5-axis mill/turns. He spent the last 20 years developing and honing his skills in the 5-axis mill/turn area. His expertise covers a wide variety of areas – medical, aerospace, robotics, and semiconductor. Alan develops end to end manufacturing process from planning to the final production product. This includes part concept, CAD/CAM programming, part inspection, and outside processes.

Machine Shop FAQ

What is your minimum order?

We specialize in complex, critical parts — the ones that have to be right every time, because your product and your reputation depend on them. Because of the engineering, automation, and quality systems we put behind every part, most of our work is on components with annual purchasing of $1M or more. If you have a critical part and you’re buying around $1M of it per year, that is exactly the kind of work we are built for.

What do you need from me to quote a job?

A 3D model (STEP, Parasolid, or IGES) and a PDF drawing with tolerances, material, and finish callouts, plus your quantities and target dates. For assemblies, include the BOM. The more complete the package, the faster and sharper the quote.

Do you handle prototypes or production?

We specialize in production and repeat orders. It can be high production or it can be low quantity but orders that repeat every month.

What tolerances can you hold?

If your drawing calls it out, we plan for it. Every critical feature is verified on CMM and vision metrology systems, and the inspection report ships with your parts — so you're not taking our word for it.

What industries and materials do you work with?

Medical device, analytical instruments, semiconductor, aerospace, small satellite, and EV programs. We routinely machine aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and zirconium, and have developed specific expertise in plastics like Ultem 1000, PEEK, Delrin, Hydex, and grey PVC. Our finishing network covers everything from anodize to specialty processes like vapor polishing.

Can you help improve my design for manufacturing?

Yes — DFM is a core competency here, built over 38 years. Bring us in at design review and we'll flag the small changes that lower cost, improve quality, or shorten cycle time, then keep finding year-over-year reductions once you're in production.

What are your lead times like?

It depends on complexity and volume — but this is exactly why we automated. Lights-out capacity means production keeps moving around the clock, and your quote comes with a committed schedule we plan the floor around.

Do you do more than machining?

Yes. Mechanical assembly, process planning, finishing management, and engineering support — so you can hand us a drawing and receive a finished, inspected, ready-to-integrate part or assembly.
